Brail

Gateway to the national park

 «Brail – nature, tranquillity and alpine diversity»

The small village of Brail lies at 1,636 m above sea level and is home to around 100 people, making it both the highest and the smallest community in the municipality of Zernez.

The River Inn flows just downhill from the village. This mighty Alpine river passes through the impressive Brail Gorge and is popular for kayaking and canoeing in the summer. It nestles directly next to the Swiss National Park, which fascinates nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts alike with its unspoiled wilderness and impressive biodiversity.

«Cultural heritage between bridge and church»

The 600-year-old church of San Tumesch is a cultural highlight. Brail also forms the language border between the two Romansh dialects of Vallader and Putèr – marked by the symbolic border of the Punt Ota (High Bridge) that lies just outside the village, on the road towards Cinuos-chel.

 «Comfortable living, active lifestyle»

In winter, the «Loipa dal Sulagl» (Sun Trail) links the villages of S-chanf and Brail – an insiders’ tip for cross-country skiing enthusiasts.

Brail also boasts a true culinary highlight: VIVANDA restaurant in «IN LAIN», which is an exclusive 5-star superior hotel, has been awarded one Michelin star and 17 GaultMilliau points.

The village of Zernez is just 12 minutes away by public bus. As a lively community centre, Zernez offers countless options for leisure, education and family life: there are schools, shops and a medical facility as well as an indoor swimming pool, a sports centre and a children’s ski lift.
